Out with the Old, In with the Blue

How to Incorporate Shades of Blue into Your Interior Design

There’s no doubt about it: Blue is having a definite design moment right now. If a pop of color is what you’ve been missing in your interiors, consider incorporating bold shades into your personal aesthetic to give your space a major lift. Depending on the shade, blue can function as a neutral that works well with many other colors or as an eye-catching accent that steals the show. After all, blue is a versatile color. It can be serene and calming or bold and dramatic. It can act as the anchor color in a monochromatic room, or it can be added in small doses with pillows and throws.

Here are three shades we love and some of our favorite ways to use them in interiors.

Cornflower Blue Accents

This bold, bright shade is playful and cheerful, adding life and a bit of fun to a room full of neutrals. It’s also the perfect complement to every other shade on the color wheel. If you love it and want to add a splash of color to your home aesthetic, make an accent piece the focal point of your room, like this stylish breakfast-nook bench or dining hutch. If you are nervous about making the plunge, start with small accent pieces, including decorative plates, lampshades, rugs or plush throws to make a splash.

Turquoise Kitchen

Turquoise is a fun and energetic shade of blue that gives any room an infusion of personality. Use fresh, clean-looking tile that looks stunning with white dishes, white trim and open shelving to liven up your kitchen. For something a little less bold and adaptable to the seasons, opt for a statement rug under the table in this fresh-looking shade. Or meet somewhere in the middle and select a stunning piece like this chic chest from John-Richard to top off the look.

Prussian Blue Living Room

If drama is what you are looking for, Prussian blue is sure to deliver. With touches of green and teal, this deep, dark shade of blue is perfect for those looking for navy and dark blue alternatives that can add a touch of glamour to your living room. Add just a hint to your space with elegant statement chairs or consider reupholstering a larger piece in a luxurious fabric in this shade. Go bold and use it on the walls, or for the more adventurous, add dramatic window treatments. Regardless of the season, this deep shade ends up feeling super warm and inviting.

Whether you paint your office walls or kitchen cabinets or dress up your windows with luxurious draperies in any of these shades, we can assure you that this is a design move that isn’t going out of style.
